Exploring Affective Politics and Silence around Race in Film-Philosophy through Mira Nair’s Films

Abstract

The present research analyses the interplay between affect and race in film philosophy, underscoring how collective emotional responses, such as shame, guilt, and embarrassment – simultaneously reflect and challenge the silence surrounding racial discourse. It assesses Western power dynamics and the systematic marginalisation of the “other”, positioning film as a transformative medium for political expression and social change.
