The Influence of Indian Classical Music on Film Soundtracks and Visual Narrative

Abstract

This paper explores how Indian classical music, particularly ragas and talas, has shaped film scoring and cinematic storytelling by evoking mood, reinforcing character development, and deepening audience connection. Using a qualitative approach that draws on scholarly literature and critical evaluation of film soundtracks, the study examines how classical elements are used thematically across orchestration, song composition, and background score, and how they enrich historical, mythological, and commercial genres of Indian cinema while balancing tradition with modern audience expectations.
